FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Raksha Hash and your privacy.
📸 Will my photo be uploaded to the server?+
Absolutely not. Your photo never leaves your phone or computer. Only a 64-character "code" (fingerprint) is sent to us — like a unique name for your photo. The photo cannot be recreated from this code.
🔢 What is a hash or fingerprint?+
Think of it like an Aadhaar card number — a unique ID that belongs only to your photo. Even if someone crops the photo or changes the color slightly, this ID will still match and the photo will be blocked.
🤝 What is Saheli Mode?+
In Saheli Mode, you can add a trusted friend or family member (like a sister, mother, or best friend). They get a private link to see your case status without needing your PIN. If anything happens to you, they can help immediately.
🌐 Which platforms are protected?+
We are working with Indian social media platforms and messaging apps. International platforms like Meta and Twitter have their own NCII programs. Our goal is to enable detection everywhere simultaneously.
💰 Is it free?+
Yes, 100% free — forever. No hidden charges, no subscriptions. This is an open-source, non-profit initiative.
✂️ What if the abuser edits the photo?+
Raksha Hash is smart — slight cropping, color changes, or format changes won't bypass detection. However, heavy AI editing (like deepfakes) requires different tools. We update our models continuously.
🗑️ Can I remove protection later?+
Yes! Go to the dashboard, enter your Case ID and PIN, and click "Delete Case." All your hashes will be permanently deleted immediately.
🤖 Are AI-generated or deepfake images accepted?+
Yes. If an AI-generated image depicts you in a sexual manner without consent, you can register its hash.
🔍 Can I verify that the photo wasn't sent?+
Absolutely! See our "Verify Yourself" page — there's a step-by-step guide on how to use browser DevTools to check for yourself that only the hash was sent.
⚖️ How do I take legal action after registering?+
Check our "Legal Action Guide" (/legal) page. You can: (1) Report directly to platforms — Cybercrime Portal, Meta, StopNCII (2) Generate a ready-to-use FIR draft in Hindi or English (3) Find emergency helplines — 1930, 7827170170.
🔑 I forgot my Case ID or PIN. What should I do?+
Unfortunately, we cannot help. Because Raksha Hash is end-to-end encrypted, even we don't know your PIN. Please save your Case ID and PIN immediately in a notes app or a password manager.
